This day is known as * * "Sete de Setebro" * * (September 7th) and is an important national day in Brazil. The process of independence was led by Prince Pedro, who was then Regent of Brazil (later Emperor Pedro I of Brazil), who issued the famous "Grito dolpiranga Declaration of Independence" on the same day, shouting the slogan "Independence or Death"
